Thanks for the follow up. I suppose its good to know that it's not always the pump that is having some sort of problem, but sometimes there can be something wrong with the system itself.

I wonder about the Diesel pump, which should have a obviously incompatible diameter to it that would make it very difficult to even attempt to use to fill it up. But, hey, stranger things have happened.

Hello, well a message on my dash came on to "check fuel inlet." After reading about this message on a Ford Flex forum some people said the seal might be broken and the message might go away after the next fill-up or the engine light may come on. Well the next day my engine light came on so I took the Flex into the dealership where they took the whole fuel inlet system apart, re-lubed everything and put it back together. And I got gas the next day without mishap so I guess I am good to go! I asked the guys in the Service Dept if they had anyone else come in for this and they did have someone bring a Focus in with the gas nozzle still attached! They said the gas station put a diesel nozzle head on a pump labeled regular which caused that person's issue.

Yes, ancestors could've easily lost their eye to just an infected scratch on the eye.

We will have to swap eye stories when you get here this week.

I don't know what H G Welles would think about 2013 (he's dead, I think). But I think it's a pretty good time to be alive. Rockin' in the free world!

Yeah, probably best that you are cautious in the future, but you shouldn't have to just to get fuel into your car. If you follow up with a dealership, let me know what they have to say about it please.

Hello - I am not sure if I damaged the fuel port or not, does not appear so, I have not taken it in to the dealer yet. I did some quick Googling and it looks like this is a common issue for some models, suggestion is to not insert the nozzle all the way. I have never had this happen to me but I guess I will be more cautious in the future!

Thanks for sharing!

Did that damage the fuel port?

One of the other commenters on here suggested that just having a cap that is tethered to the car is just as good as the space age option Ford is using for this capless system. The only benefit that I can understand from it being capless is that you have no cap to lose.

As I'm becoming the Internet hub of Ford capless problem anecdotes, I'm beginning to agree.

I had the opposite problem happen to me - went to fill-up this morning because fuel light is on and the nozzle would not come out, it was stuck! After 20 minutes and the help of someone much stronger than me it was finally 'ripped' out of the gas tank. Went to a Citgo in MI I have never used before. I drive a 2011 Ford Flex with the capless system.
